Motion Control & Automation

target motion control

Motion Control is the local control system for the motorisation of movements of instrument components.

Most of the applications are anticipated to be covered by a generic motion control system. However, complex applications will use a dedicated and specialised control system, e.g. the robotic detector positioning system planned for NMX, the macromolecular crystallography instrument. The Motion Control & Automation Group is closely working together with the Integrated Control System Division (ICS) to ensure all instrument systems are connected to the control and timing interfaces of the control box and the ESS-wide EPICS control system.

Workshops & Facilities

ESS maintains a number of facilities for R&D, including workshops in Lund, test beamlines in Germany and Norway, and a thin films coating facility in Linköping.
