A ceremony was held at ESS today to mark the extension of the agreement between the two facilities. J-PARC Director, Takashi Kobayashi, and Japan’s Ambassador to Sweden, Noke Masaki, were among the guests at the event.
Helmut Schober, ESS Director General, ESS’s Directors and members of the Executive Board welcomed the honoured guests to the event at ESS, which was held in conjunction with a two-day commissioning workshop involving staff from ESS and J-PARC. A tour of the ESS facility took place after the ceremony.
A formal agreement between ESS and J-PARC was first established in 2012, and was later renewed in 2017 in Stockholm, in the presence of the then Swedish Prime Minister, Stefan Löfven, and the Japanese Prime Minister at the time, the late Shinzo Abe.
The renewed cooperation agreement, which is valid for five years, was signed in June 2022, but the decision was made to combine the ceremony marking the renewal with the joint workshop.
