A historic event took place in the Klystron Gallery (G02), as the giant Cold Box was opened up to empty it of nitrogen gas and to air it out. Once closed and sealed last Thursday, it is never to be opened again. Some electrical works remain in the G02 building, which includes test and commissioning of the system, before handover to ESS.
In the Target building two more wall castings are scheduled in the Monolith this week. The NSS plates that are to be cast in close to the circular sections around the puck, are expected to be delivered on October 24. These walls are to be cast with heavy concrete. Formwork for the next level vault started last week. In Active Cells, works with reinforcement and form, installation of cooling pipes and linear beams continues.
In D01 (Experimental Hall 1) two bottom slab castings were performed last week. The fan-shaped Experimental Hall for the long instruments (E-buildings) is taking shape out in the northwest part of site. Steel structure erection has now reached building E04. The delivery of sandwich panels for the facades is expected to start during this week.
