The Italian National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN) announced last week that it has completed work on a major in-kind contribution to ESS. The design, construction and commissioning of the ion source and the low-energy beam transport (LEBT) line are a €4.5 million in-kind contribution from INFN-Catania. Together these systems will launch the ESS proton beam at the front end of the LINAC. The next steps are delivery and installation. The system components will leave Catania in the week of December 4 and arrive ready for installation in Lund the following week.
