Last week on the construction site, the integration of massive steel shielding plates with the concrete structure of the Target Monolith began, along with the last two Monolith wall castings of the year. Mechanical, electrical and plumbing works are underway in the Sprinkler Building (H10) in preparation for filling and testing the large tanks within. Several landscaping works are in progress, with soil levelling completed on the sloped berm along the Accelerator tunnel (G01), and seed planting begun. Reinforced grass is being introduced at the tunnel’s emergency exits and more trees and bushes have been planted around the perimeter of the site.
SAT-3 testing continues throughout the Gallery Building (G02) and is scheduled to complete before the holiday. And the ion source and LEBT components for the LINAC made it to Sweden on Monday, with site delivery scheduled for today. The in-kind contribution from Italy’s INFN was completed last month and shipped out of their National Laboratory of the South in Catania, Sicily, a week ago. It will be the first machine installation for the Accelerator, to begin early next year.
