Last week at the construction site, steady progress continued at the Target Building Utility area, with the third of the four A2T (Accelerator to Tunnel) walls cast.
An estimated 900 m3 of concrete will be used to cast the 4-meter thick walls. MEP (mechanical, electrical and plumbing) are installing wastewater and cable pipes and grounding electrical systems as part of the concrete casting process. Vault construction will commence shortly, with completion expected
before the end of this year.
Experimental Hall 3 (E01) is a hive of activity with door and gate installations, facade works, metal cladding and multiple interior activities ongoing - electrical installations, ventilation, sound absorbers, elevator installations, gypsum works and various painting jobs. In the E-buildings, MEP works in E01 and E02 are in the installation completion stage, in lab buildings E03 and E04 installation has just begun and in substation E05 testing and commissioning is in progress.
MEP works are also starting up in the Installation Galleries at the service tunnels under the Target Building and South Experimental Halls. Process piping is still ongoing with pipe installations between substation buildings D05 and E05 in progress. Transformers have been delivered to substation building D05.
MEP in numbers: 7,25 km of process piping, more than 1 200 piping bends and approximately 300 valves - for the process systems alone! Additionally there are sprinkler piping, ventilation ducting, electrical cable ladders and cables.
