Target

The construction of the NMX cave is nearing completion, as the overhead internal crane is in place and fitting of  roof elements is ongoing. Preparation has now started for the next cave to be built - the one for the instrument BIFROST - and erection of the cave structure is set to start in August.
The very first steel columns for part 2 of the Beamline Gallery building were put in place last week, and roof truss no 12 has been fitted for  Experimental Hall 1.
The steel for the Transport Hall entrance area is nearing completion, and sandwich panels have been fitted to the south corridor of the Technical Galleries.
Fitting of the R6 bunker system on the south side of the Monolith is ongoing, with a curved beam and 22 pillars. On the Experimental Hall 2 side, where the R6 system is already in place, preparations have started for bunker crane installation, and an overhead crane has been mounted in the Transport Hall.
Internal seals and  profiles are being installed  on the Active Cell-side of the high bay, and a connecting cell steel door, weighting 14 tonnes, has been fitted between Tom’s Room and the Monolith area.

Accelerator

A Machine Access System (MAS) and a Personnel Access System (PAS) are being installed n the basement of Front End Building. These are part of the protection system for the accelerator tunnel and will be a means to control access to the Linac, once it goes into commissioning. Similar equipment (PAS) will be installed in the HEBT Loading Bay area (level 090) and in the Target, as well as in the experiment halls. For the commissioning of the Normal Conducting Linac, the Temporary Shielding Wall being built will be used for radiation protection/access.

General

The team at the Waste Treatment Facility are aiming to have the roof works completed before the summer holiday period. Hollow core slabs are in place for the central hall and TRP (Tremco Roof Preservative) roofing has been installed on both sides, and insulation and a roof membrane is to be fitted on top.
The office building atrium on Campus is really starting to take shape,  with its wooden panels and 'Hogwarts' like stairs.

This is the last Construction Update for a while - see you after the summer!
