ESS 'sombrero' in progress
The cantilever roof installation (The ESS 'sombrero') is moving forward very quickly, with the roof encapsulating Experimental Hall connected to the roof structure over the adjacent lab building. Panels are mounted on the southside roof and underneath, steel cladding for the Experimental Hall façade continues. Top windows are expected to be completed during December.
A crane for the Neutron Shielding Bunker
The bunker crane girder for the overhead crane serving the west and the north sectors of the ESS Neutron Shielding Bunker has arrived and is subject to installation. ESS Neutron Scattering Section (NSS) continues with the bunker block and baseplate installation; with completion of the west wall, anticipated early January.
Labs moving into operation
The chemical and technical laboratories in the Lab buildings adjacent to the long instruments in Experimental Hall 3 are ready for final commissioning and official handover to ESS from UK In-Kind partner, STFC. Equipment has been moved from the previous ESS laboratory located in a nearby facility; instrumentation is being set up and the Labs will shortly be brought into operation.
As external works are nearing completion for the labs adjacent to the short instruments in Experimental Hall 1 and 2, these are now subject to internal fittings, which include mounting of gypsum walls, parallel to in-wall and in-ceiling installations.
