Normal Conducting Linac
Last week, the plug for the temporary shielding wall was again put in place for commissioning activities to proceed inside the Normal Conducting Linac (NCL). Beam is now on up to the LEBT faraday cup and the rest of the components in the NCL are subject to conditioning.
Beam commissioning, all the way from ion source to DTL1 faraday cup, is forecasted to start in mid-May.
Cryomodule testing
The third cryomodule set for serial testing in the test stand 2 bunker is subject to conditioning with radio-frequency power in cool-down state – the target temperature of 2 Kelvin has been obtained in the cavities.
Target
Target wheel delivered
Early in the morning on 1 March the delivery of the target wheel, shaft and drive unit took place on site. It arrived from ESS Bilbao in Spain after a long journey through Europe and was off-loaded and unpacked inside Experimental Hall 3. Quality checks followed.
This week the target wheel will continue to a factory in Malmö, where a luminescent coating will be sprayed onto the surface.

Target Monolith shielding
Delivery of outer shielding blocks for the Monolith area has started.
In the next weeks, the installation of shielding wedges between the 42 port tubes will start. This will be followed by a top plate, covering the port tubes. On this top plate the outer shielding blocks will be placed.
Monolith vessel
Vacuum leak tests are ongoing in the Monolith area. The confinement includes the vacuum vessel, the proton beam window port block and vessel, the remote clamp and all port tubes, closed by end plates.
