Last week on the construction site, steady progress was logged in the construction of the Target Station (D02), including another wall of heavy concrete cast for the Active Cells area. Formwork for the next level of the Monolith walls began, and preparations to begin construction of the D05 substation building were completed.
In the Accelerator Tunnel (G01), mounting of the ion source components is nearing completion, to be followed by pressure tests and cabling.
More ESS deliveries arrived on site last week, including the modulator that will power the klystrons in Test Stand 2, as well as two more of the 19 helium tanks that will supply the Cryo-Compressor Building. Facade and roof works continue for the E-buildings Guide Hall (E02) and Instrument Hall (E01). Water and sewerage works for the facility entrance building (F04) are in the final stages. This will serve as the staging area for construction of the campus buildings.
And finally, preparations for the staged move of the full ESS staff to temporary site offices are moving quickly forward. Eighty-two containers bound for Lund left Estonia on a ship last week, and a heavy crane is in position on site to lift them into place. A total of 269 modules will be shipped for the new offices. The move from ESS HQ to the construction site will begin in March and should be complete by the end of May.
