Target
The superstructure erection is ongoing on the Monolith high bay; two full arches are up and more are being added. In total, 27 steel pillars will be erected on each side of the high bay and connected to a roof beam, completing the frame.
Steel erection for the Hall 2 Lab Building is getting closer to completion. Filigree slabs for 'Accelerator to Target' have been installed, with reinforcement of the slab to follow and a concrete top screed to be cast by the end of August.
Excavation for the Dog Leg cover has started on the south side. The corner slab of the Beamline Gallery, close to the beam line wall, was cast.
Concrete upstands are in progress in Experimental Hall 1, in preparation for the installation of the future superstructure. Shielding works continue in the 'Drift to Target' part of the Target building. A neutron shielding wall will be cast in two stages. The first is done with normal concrete and contains embedments for the proton beam pipe and a stainless steel manhole. The second part of this wall will be cast early September, using heavy concrete.
Accelerator
ESS has received a permit from SSM (Swedish Radiation Authority) to operate the bunker in Test Stand 2. Installation of the last cooling pipes for the bunker is underway.
In the Accelerator tunnel, preparations for the Radio Frequency Quadrupole (RFQ) arrival are underway. This include pipe support, drilling holes and cleaning of the area.
General
Logistics Centre: A sectional handover from SEC to ESS took place, and is the first of all handed-over buildings to date to become fully operational. From now on, all goods addressed to and from ESS will go through the Logistics Centre for further distribution.
Handover of the long, curved Experimental Hall and part of the Beam Line Gallery took place, marking the start of the installation of neutron beam guides and instrument caves.
