Target
The steel skeleton for Experiment Hall 1 is growing daily - the entire row of 22 approximately 17m tall columns have been erected for the south facade of the building, and those for the east gable, by the D06 Substation, started last week. The entire frame will be in place within the next couple of weeks. Superstructure is also progressing for Experimental Hall 2, where roof truss no. 9 was installed last week. Inside the building, the ESS Target Division made the most of the parallel access to the Utility Building, by lowering 12 large water drain tanks from the high bay level. These were placed on the foundations already in situ, and will be installed complete with pumps and piping. Under-grouting will be performed to ensure all equipment is securely fixed in position.
Installation of in-cell stainless steel liners is in progress in the Active Cell, on both sides of the upper parts of the process cell walls. 3 000 metres of welding edges will be completed to attach the steel plates that will cover all walls and floors of both cells. A folding steel door will be installed between the cells, which will only be opened to move materials from the process cell to the maintenance cell - using the in-cell crane that will be installed here.
In Experimental Hall 3, installation of precast concrete walls for the NMX cave is progressing well. Three-tonne concrete sheets are being lifted into place using the large overhead crane and fitted on preinstalled rebars. Lab furniture deliveries are ongoing, and installation of the labs will continue as soon as circumstances allow.
