Target
Sandwich installation for Experimental Hall 2 began last week, with a row of panels now in place above the neutron beam wall, separating the hall from the Beam Line Gallery. Roof truss work continues, with horizontal braces completing the steel frame. Steel installation will soon start for part 2 of the Beam Line Gallery. As the works progress, the temporary wall to part 1 of the Beam Line Gallery, connecting the two parts, will be demolished. This is important, as this is where the neutron beam guides from the Target to the instrument caves will be installed.
In the A2T, Accelerator to Target, the steel columns up to the top level have been mounted, and work has begun on the precast interior walls and elevator shafts. A filigree precast slab will be placed on top, followed by reinforcement and an in-situ cast slab. Sandwich panel installation will start in the A2T in August and the TRP (Tremco Roof Preservative) roof in September. Sandwich panels for the entire high bay over the Active Cell and Transport Hall are almost complete. Sheet metal cladding on top of the sandwich panels will be in place shortly, after which the facades for the Target building can finally be added.
Accelerator
Cable termination works are now mainly focused on the Drift Tube Linac (DTL) sections of the Accelerator tunnel, and continue upstream. Personal Safety System (PSS) fences and an emergency exit gate have been installed in the tunnel this week. The Ion Source has also been equipped with a brand new fence. Installation of the temporary shielding wall is scheduled for week 22.
A significant amount of cable pulling and connections, cable ladder installations, piping and fibre cable installations are taking place in the Gallery. Waveguide installations continue, currently in the DTL sections.
General
Roof works are due to begin in the Waste Treatment Facility. Roof trusses will be installed for the large central hall, and TRP (Tremco Roof Preservative) on the sides. This building will have metal cladding facades, similar to the Central Utility Building.
Asphalt was poured outside the Central Utility Building last week. The building is due to undergo a Sectional Handover on 1 June. Testing and commissioning of all installed systems are completed and all data is being collected for the final review. A Sectional Handover Inspection is scheduled for 19 May.
Cladding around the Circular Road is progressing, and concrete sheets are in place all the way up to the road by the entrance building to Campus. Steel bolts are in place for roughly half of the stretch of the north Circular Road, awaiting concrete cladding. There will be a large pond on the outside of the Circular Road and an alarmed fence along the inside of the road.
