Last week on the construction site saw several concrete pours in the Target area, including two sections of the Monolith’s complex circular wall. The second wall casting for the through-wall from the D03 instrument hall to the guide hall (E02) was completed, along with another two bottom slabs for the D01 instrument hall.
Preparations are underway inside the klystron gallery’s (G02) test stand area for the casting of the so-called “cryo-chicane” wall of the test bunker. This massive block is 3 metres thick, 3.5 metres high and will be cast in heavy concrete, which contains iron ore.
Meanwhile, far out on the eastern edge of the site, detailed excavation, levelling, piping, water, sewage and other preparatory work for the Logistics Centre (F03) has been moving forward, with erection of the superstructure planned for August.
And the news from northwest England is that more than 100 metres of the Accelerator’s beam transport system, an in-kind contribution from STFC Daresbury, is packed and en route to be delivered to ESS this week.
