Last week on the construction site, the large waste pit vault for the Target Station's (D02) Active Cells Handling Area was cast, including 215 cubic metres of heavy concrete. Just to the south, two more bottom slabs were cast for the D01 instrument hall, bringing this year-long process of 78 castings closer to completion.
One kilometre of excavation work for utilities process piping is nearly completed. This piping will serve to connect ESS buildings to the district heating recycling system, via the Central Utility Building (H01).
One hundred metres of the LINAC’s beam transport piping has been placed on stands inside the Accelerator tunnel (G01), part of the UK in-kind contribution coming from STFC Daresbury.
And in the Gallery Building (G02) test stand area, preparations have progressed for the casting of the cryo-chicane shielding wall. Materials have arrived and a heavy-duty mobile crane is standing by to place formwork. The casting is planned for next week, followed by the installation of pre-cast concrete blocks that will complete the bunker.
