The new location of the ESS Data Management and Software Centre (DMSC) will be at DTU – Technical University of Denmark, Lyngby Campus, north of Copenhagen. The DMSC will start the move to DTU in February 2024.
Currently employing around 35 specialists, the DMSC is ESS’ scientific computing centre providing the services and solutions that users need for performing scientific experiments. This encompasses a fully integrated data pipeline from proposal to publication, including provisioning of software and hardware for user office, data acquisition, data streaming, data reduction, data analysis, data management, remote access and associated training.
The role of DMSC will be crucial in the delivery of an excellent experience for future scientific users. Its presence in a prestigious academic institution like DTU will enrich the collaboration between ESS and Denmark, host state of ESS together with Sweden.
Founded in 1829 at the initiative of Hans Christian Ørsted as Denmark's first polytechnical university, DTU is today ranked among Europe's leading engineering institutions. Lyngby is one of the five DTU campuses, complemented by research and test facilities in all parts of Denmark and in Greenland.
DMSC is planned to be fully transferred to its permanent DTU location in April 2024, continuing to contribute to the readiness for the first ESS scientific activities in 2026 and start of steady state operations in 2028.
