During the 29th meeting (9 &10 June), the ESS Council appointed Andrew Kimber as ESS Project Director.
Mr Kimber joined ESS in September 2020 as Deputy Project Director and assumed the role of acting Project Director in November 2021, leading the successful completion and implementation of the re-baseline of the ESS Project plan, and driving changes for a more robust and integrated management of the remaining part of the construction of ESS.
“I am delighted to continue to work with Andrew in his new role as Project Director and member of the ESS Executive Board. His experience and passion for scientific infrastructures will be a key ingredient for delivering a state-of-the-art facility to the scientific community worldwide,” says ESS Director General Helmut Schober.
Prior to joining ESS, Mr Kimber led technical projects at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in Oxford (UK) and at the Jefferson Laboratory (JLab) in Virginia (USA). Mr Kimber, a UK citizen, will take over his new role as of 1 July.
“I am happy that the ESS Council has appointed Mr Kimber as Project Director at ESS,” says Beatrix Vierkorn-Rudolph, Chair of the ESS Council. “His long-standing experience in the management of technical programmes and in-depth knowledge of the ESS project will be instrumental in delivering ESS as a world-leading research facility.”
