The 18th Meeting of the Industrial Liaison Officer (ILO) Network was held at ESS on September 18-19, 2023, bringing together representatives from 11 of the 13 ESS member states.

Meetings of the ILO network serve as a platform for the exchange of information on procurement and collaboration opportunities for businesses in Europe.

The 18th meeting of the ESS ILO network took place in Lund on 18-19 September. The meeting provided an opportunity to visit the facility, see how the ESS construction is progressing, whilst identifying remaining procurement needs.

ILO network meetings are organised to report on ESS ongoing procurement processes, upcoming tenders, In-Kind Contribution development and other collaboration opportunities. The ILO’s meet to share best practices and ideas, and to align national competences with ESS requirements. The first ILO network meeting was held in 2013. For the past 10 years, there have been 1-2 meetings each year.

The ILOs are in most cases also ILOs for other big science facilities and have many years of experience with the national markets, suppliers and the needs of the facilities.

“Utilising the ILO network in our procurement and pre-procurement activities contributes to fair competition and best value for money”, says Mirko Menninga, ESS Head of Supply, Procurement and Logistics.
